A native of Toronto with Welsh heritage Maggie Broda has been expressing herself through art since childhood and received private oil painting instruction quite early. Gleaning awards for her art throughout school, Maggie graduated from the Ontario College of Art in Drawing and Painting. There she met a strong collective of diverse artists, many of whom were influential in her work. She continues to be actively involved with OCAD University as Alumni President, and Board of Governors. Early work by Maggie focused on landscape. As a practicing advocate for the environment her ability to reach out with art was acknowledged by TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment. They provided her with annual grants to apply her talent in art as a catalyst to underscore the serious issues facing the environmental. Currently the artist creates figurative impressionist paintings that express action and energy with bold impasto style and colour. She is a member of The Muskoka Arts and Craft Group, Women’s Art Association of Canada, Women’s Art Association of Hamilton where her work appears regularly in member’s shows. In Toronto she is represented by The Elaine Fleck Gallery, 888 Queen St. More can be seen at www.maggiebroda.com
